A special online interfaith roundtable event focusing on Gratitude
About this event
With the approach of the holiday season, JAM & ALL Interfaith was delighted and honored to continue our 20th anniversary celebration with a special online gratitude event;
"Recognizing Gifts: Finding Hidden Blessings In Challenging Times"
Monday, November 8th at 7:30 pm Eastern Time.
This online gathering used as its jumping-off point the 7-time Tony-nominated Canadian musical Come From Away. This critically-acclaimed musical offers "a cathartic reminder of the capacity for human kindness in even the darkest of times and the triumph of humanity over hate"(BBC News, May 2, 2017).
Described by its authors as a "9/12 story," Come From Away is a musical about the 38 planes that were diverted to a small town in Newfoundland, Canada on 9/11/2001. The kindness of the residents of Gander in feeding and housing 7,000 unexpected guests of all races, religions and backgrounds was an inspiring example of reaching out and bridging differences. This gesture of love in the midst of such a painful and frightening time is an example of great good coming out of something horrible. JAM & ALL Interfaith is another!
After hearing thoughts on gratitude in the midst of challenge from Rev. Todd Humphrey, interfaith minister and spiritual leader of Crystal Coast Unity in NC., we gathered in small groups to reflect on our own gratitude for silver linings in times of tragedies, and how kindness and gratitude have affected our acceptance and understanding of people different from us.
